Online Shopping is still in introductory phase in Pakistan and currently a very small number of the total internet Users Shop Online . Although the trend is changing but the major obstacles in the path are as follows:

  • Lack Payment solutions e.g Paypal
  • Limited number of trusted online retailers
  • Knowledge about Online Shopping
  • etc etc
In this post I would like to explore this topic further focusing on payment solutions. First of all the most used payment method i.e Credit Card.

Credit CARD

Credit Card adds a lot of convenience to online shopping .You just select the product you want from a retailer and give your Credit Card Number and other similar details and you are done.

Although Credit cards make it lot easier but previously not everyone had access to credit cards but this has changed now. I would like to mention the example of UBL Wiz Prepaid Card and especially UBL WIZ Internet card , a new prepaid credit card introduced by ubl which can be obtained by anyone having CNIC card.

Also one of the other benift is that there are no activation charges for use online unlike other credit cards. As it is a prepaid card you can load your card just like you would would your mobile sim and you are done. You can get the UBL wiz card from selected ubl branches for Rs.100 + tax

Some Details about the UBL Wiz internet card!

Market Total Balance Allowed-Max Deposit (Rs.) ATM Withdrawal

All those video caller’s you can play farmville and video chat with your friends at the same time and on the same website .

Facebook has launched Video calling directly from facebook website in collaboration with Skype ( A Voip company recently bought by Microsoft ) . Now you can enjoy video calling from facebook but both you and your friend has to download an application to support video call.

Also currently you can call only one of your friend , while the new Facebook competitor Google + (Currently under test mode ) allows you to have group video calling.

Stored Passwords!

Do you think your stored passwords in your browser are safe ? Then think again !

The saved passwords in browser are not safe at all , anybody trying to get hands on your accounts can easily do so.

There are two ways your passwords can be stolen :

1. Somebody hooks a usb drive to your PC and within seconds he can get all the stored passwords on your Pc , from browsers , email clients and chat messengers etc. ( There are tools available that automate this process so it takes on 2 ,3 seconds !

2.One of the most common ways of stealing accounts and other valuable details are botnets , trojans etc for general readers lets just call them viruses , Everyday new viruses are created by hackers and they make way to your computer through downloads and torrents etc . All though viruses can do anything to your Pc like , destroying your data and corrupting your system some viruses are specially designed for stealing information .

What ! Then how can i protect myself !

Well there are several ways to protect yourself lets take a look :

1. In your office or any other place anybody can hook up a usb pre-loaded with tools to extract your passwords ,

  • First of all be vigilant ,
  • Password protect and lock your computer when away from it
  • Take extra steps for safety of your Laptop
  • You can disable usb functionality so that no usb other than yours can connect to your Pc ( Just search the web for the method)
  • Don’t allow access to anyone to your Pc in your absence

2. Millions of Pc are affected by viruses each year , you might know several ways to protect yourselves e.g

  • Install and Regularly update your antivirus
  • Keep firewall On
  • Look twice when downloading anything e.g look at the source , the size of file , the best way is to always download from trusted websites. Viruses can be embed into music files , software and even docs and pictures

Further preventive measures!

I would recommend use a password protection manager e.g Last Pass .Last pass adds an additional layer of security to your Passwords . It is available as an extension for all browsers . It stores your passwords on its secured servers and allows access only by entering your master password , it does all the work of a default browser password manager like storing passwords , form data , and other notes etc . All securely stored in their servers and also you need to remember only your master password and can access your accounts safely from any browser or Pc securely without remembering all of your passwords!

Last Words !

Prevention is better than cure , Stay SAFE !

Hi everyone , Today I am posting on the same topic  ( http://www.pakblogger.tk/2011/05/ptcl-evo-wireless-3g-slow-download-speed-issue/ ) that i posted a couple of days ago.

Many of PTCL evo users have reported slow download speed and streaming in many areas of Punjab . Earlier I was told that this issue would be resolved by Sunday the 29th May , But the crux of the matter is this problem is still going on . I tried to communicate this matter to the PTCL Complaint centre but as usual they gave me worthless suggestion’s like try using Evo in another area , Check for viruses etc  despite the fact that I am using the Evo device less than 1 km from the PTCL exchange and have updated Nod32 Antivirus . Sometimes they asked me to change the evo mode from evdo to hybrid and at other times from hybrid to Evdo.

After trying my best to convince the Complaint Management staff that the problem was not in my PC or due to location , finally they lodged a complaint to their concerned department.

Yesterday I received a follow-up call from the PTCL Evo department , asking me to check and inform my internet speed . I did as they told and finally they asked me to come to their office and get the device checked , the download speed and video streaming was  slow as i myself had checked and they concluded that the problem was not with my device , after they inquired from several other exchanges, this matter came to day light that the problem was faced in all the exchanges and several customers had returned their devices.

The PTCL staff assured me that the matter would be dealt by the following day but to speak the truth this issue is as it is by the time i am writing this post. One thing worth mentioning is that now the PTCL complaint Cell instead of giving worthless suggestions now tells that this is a back-end issue .

Here is the download speed of Ptcl Evo 3g 3.1 Mpbs checked at Speedtest.net

I hope PTCL administrati0n deals with this issue properly and quickly.

If you are facing any issue from PTCL comment below!
