Making a decision!

Making the decision is the most important thing ,there are a number of factors which might effect your decision .

But before you even start first visit the Coverage map to find whether your area is covered or not and what is the coverage quality in your area , go here http://www.wateen.com/for-me/internet/internet-tariff/?dev=bolt#widget_coveragemap

If your area is covered than well & good , You can go on forward .

Wateen uses wimax technology and you should be located about 400 -500 metre around the tower to get a good signal . The far you go the more the signal will deteriorate .

Wateen’s internet services are fairly reliable and Internet speed is mostly good. Compared to the Wireless internet provide by PTCL > Evo and Worldcall wireless , you will get somewhat consistent speed  which will be around the standard values provided. While PTCL EVO service has deteriorated much since its launch . I tested that when getting full signals you get more download speed via wateens 1 mbps connection than the PTCL EVO’s 3.1mbps one .

As wateen has been relaunched they have started several new promotions and advertisements. I would like to mention one offer , if you are going to get a wateen connection. Wateen has waived off the subscription charges of Rs.1499 for Warid Post Pay customers .If you have a Warid Post pay connection , go to your nearest wateen franchise with your warid Post pay bill to get new connection by paying the first months charges only.

You can get internet only or internet + telephony combined.

Getting a new connection :

Go to your nearest wateen franchise , and sign up for a new connection . Wateen representatives will check the connection, Speed  & Signals at your residence . After the payment of charges you will be given the device and you will have verify your cnic information to activate your device . Thats all your device will be ready for use .

Note that wateen provides 15 day moneyback testing duration . Check for connection , Speed or any other issues rigorously during this period.

As speculated earlier amazon.com after entering the e-reader market with the Kindle E-reader has now jumped into the tablet market by introducing Kindle Fire !

Amazon introduced the Kindle Fire today, a 7-inch Android tablet for $199— a good three hundred dollars cheaper than the iPad. Amazon also will be offering regular and touch Kindles at seriously attractive prices, starting at $79. Further sweetening the pot, free 3G will be offered in the Kindle touch 3G.

Amazon’s making it almost impossible not to own a Kindle in one form or another. If you just want an ereader, the $79 Kindle is 30% lighter (5.98 ounces) than previous Kindles. A $99 version will add touch navigation. And the top-of-the-line Kindle touch 3G is $149, with the free 3G access. All three models still sport the e-ink technology.

The Kindle Fire Tablet is the big announcement, today, however. This souped-up Kindle is also an Android tablet with dual-core processor, a multi-touch IPS display, and light 14.6 ounce weight. To get to the inexpensive $199 price point, Amazon left out a camera and microphone, and it will only be available with Wi-Fi, not 3G. Some neat details:

  • The Whispersync technology that brings ebooks quickly to Kindles will work to sync movies and TV shows from Amazon’s growing library to the Fire.
  • A new Silk browser, which partially resides on Amazon’s cloud servers, pre-loads pages to speed up browsing.
  • Starts shipping November 15; It would take some time to launch in Pakistani market !

What do you think? Will you be buying a Kindle?

Pakistan has banned the use of encryption software or VPN ,VPNs allow you to go undetected while using the Internet and sending messages. They are commonly used to access blocked sites or to create a secure network for a business’s remote employees.

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority sent a legal notice to the country’s ISPs, ordering them to turn in customers who use VPNs, The Guardian reports. According to the notice, anyone who wants to use a VPN needs to ask for special permission.

Pakistani authorities say the purpose of the ban, which was instated in 2010 but was not seriously enforced, is to inhibit terrorist communications. All Internet activity in Pakistan is routed through the state-run Pakistan Internet Exchange, creating an easy opportunity for the government to monitor messages that aren’t protected by a VPN.

It’s not the first time Pakistan has drastically restricted its citizens’ online actions. Last year, the Lahore High Court ordered authorities to temporarily ban Facebook due to a contest calling for caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W.W). Authorities also blocked YouTube due to sacrilegious content.

Although the Pakistani Government hasn’t succeeded in curbing terrorism but is at the same time enforcing these rules which also affect the General Citizens , making their online activities insecure and unsafe.

Update: The Chairman PTA has said that VPN’s were not banned to monitor terrorists but this ban has been placed to prevent illegal VOIP service providers! ( Reported by DAWN NEWS)
